Welcome to TCM Course Marshal Section 13!

Hello Course Marshal Volunteers, and welcome to Section 13 -- Franklin Bridge to Marshall Ave Ramp (south) -- of the 2014 Twin Cities Marathon/TC10 Miler!

On the map above, Locations 3-12 are volunteer areas, and Location 14 is our race-day morning rendezvous location. Descriptions of each area are in the list below, together with a first draft of your individual location assignments. We may yet have to shuffle some things around, so please be patient and stay flexible.

Please plan to meet us at 6AM on Sunday 10/5 so everyone can get their course marshal t-shirts, food and drink, any last minute instructions, and so we can account for all locations. We'll have more info coming to you via email between now and race day.

If you have friends or family who would still like to get on board, have them register with TCM using the link and password below. Let us know, too, via email so we know who to expect and can get everyone assigned to a location ahead of time.

Thanks again for volunteering!

  • The Marathon needs to account for each of its thousands of race weekend volunteers! Register as a Section 13 Course Marshal if you haven't already.Visit this page and enter the Section 13 password: CMSECTION1314.
Glitch alert: only one volunteer is permitted per email address. If you are using the same email for more than one person, check the box indicating that there is no email for the additional people.

1. West River Parkway to Franklin Bridge
NOT IN OUR SECTION 2014. On W River Road just south (and below) Franklin bridge, where runners transition from River Rd to ramp leading up to bridge.  Runners come from the north in the 10 mile and from the south in the marathon. There's a lot going on here, especially during the 10 mile. A police officer is also stationed here. 3+ barricades.

2. West Franklin Bridge
previous HCM section covered - MARATHON ONLY in 2014. At top of ramp where ramp from River Rd meets Franklin. Busy area with lots of spectators and two-way vehicle traffic in adjacent lanes. Watch for pedestrians on center dividing island before bridge - we do not want them there. A police officer is also stationed here. 3+ barricades. Mile 19 is on Franklin Avenue, just before the start of the bridge, 68' feet east of the stop sign at the entrance ramp from W River Pkwy onto Franklin.

3. East Franklin Bridge to E. River Parkway
At intersection of Franklin and East River Parkway. A police officer is also stationed here. Lots going on here with many spectators and two-way vehicle traffic in adjacent lanes. 3+ barricades. TC 10-milers will come from the north this year (not crossing at Franklin). Marathoners cross the bridge as usual. Mile Marker 3 for the TC 10 Mile is in middle of  Franklin Ave & E River Pkwy intersection where lane lines between E bound Franklin Ave lanes cross.

4. Thornton Street and E. River Parkway
Two barricades at Thornton, a side street terminating into East River Parkway.  Nearby are a medical station and the Medtronic Plaza (big party water stop!). In previous years, this intersection has been totally blocked by vehicles/trailers servicing the nearby water stop. We anticipate the same this year, and after the 10 Mile we anticipate Liz and Suzi being able to move to the west end of Franklin Ave bridge (spot 2 above).  AMBULANCE - STATIONARY - PARKED AT END OF BLOCK FOR MEDICAL AID STATION DURING MARATHON ONLY. IMPOSSIBLE FOR VEHICLES TO GET THROUGH. SPECTATORS REMAINED BEHIND BARRICADES.
